Memphis Police Reviewing Tactical Unit

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — Memphis' police department is conducting an internal review of its tactical unit after a barricade situation at a home earlier this month.

In a news release distributed late Friday, the Memphis Police Department said the supervisory staff of the TACT Unit has been restructured, "which will allow further assessment such as manpower, tactics, training and day to day operations."

The department says the Shelby County Sheriff's Office SWAT Team will respond to situations where a tactical unit usually is deployed while the investigation continues.

The investigation comes after an Oct. 15 barricade situation at the home of Aaron Dumas, who had an active attempted murder warrant.

During the standoff, two TACT officers were injured when Dumas fired from the house.

The structure later burned, and Dumas' remains were found inside.
