Police Charge Man with Soliciting Minor for Sex Online and Sending Sexually Explicit Image

Jackson police have charged 30 year-old Herbert Donta Bates, of Jackson, in connection with him soliciting a minor for sex online and sending a sexually explicit image via the Internet.
The police department's Special Investigations Bureau became aware that Bates solicited a boy for sex online. Investigators also learned that Bates sent the minor a nude image of himself via the Internet.
Bates arranged to meet the minor at Muse Park, located at 1371 N. Parkway. Instead of the minor, investigators went to the park and waited. Bates was taken into custody without incident.
Bates was arraigned in Jackson City Court on charges of solicitation of a minor and sexual exploitation of a minor. He was later released on $30,000 bond.
Bates' next scheduled court appearance is 1:30 p.m. Oct. 3 in Jackson City Court.
Anyone with information about adults making online solicitation of minors is asked to contact the Jackson Police Department's Special Investigations Bureau at 731-425-8400.
