Flash flooding hits parts of Gibson County

Water had started to recede at the intersection of 12th and Mitchell Street in Humboldt, but not before levels had reached three-feet deep, Monday.

Schools in Humboldt sent students home early, but businesses remained open during the downpour.

East of town, Todd Patterson, owner of Classic Woodworks, spent a few minutes videoing water that closed in on the business he owns at 3603 E. Mitchell Street, near the U.S. Highway 45 Bypass.

“When we have flash flooding, this happens pretty regular,” Todd said. “This is not the worst one we’ve had, but it’s pretty good. Back several years ago when we had the 13 inches of rain, it got up a little bit higher, but this is about as high as it gets.”

Near Medina, water was noticeable on Highway 152.

Traffic continued to flow, but much slower than the posted speed limit, and the Tennessee Department of Transportation took precaution and had a driver positioned on the road which helped alert drivers.
