Jackson is getting very good at knocking buildings down.
The latest casualty was at the corner of North Royal Street and East Lafayette Street – but don’t look for a new structure – at least in the near future.
The property, which is adjacent to the Jackson-Madison County Library, becomes additional parking for the library.
“It will increase the parking significantly,” said Dinah Harris, executive director of the Jackson-Madison County Library. “Our program center has a lot of activities, and the additional parking was really, really needed.”
The City of Jackson and Madison County purchased the property for $140,000.
The City completed demolition of the existing building, Friday, and was in the process of leveling the site for paving – a cost the City and County will split.
The county previously approved $77,000 for the project, which includes its portion of the purchase and paving.
