Captain D’s opens on South Highland Avenue, Tuesday
Captain D’s, 1761 South Highland Avenue, opens at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 30.
Chad Vaughn, a resident of Waverly, owns the restaurant, which consists of about 2,000-square-feet, and will have seating for 52.
Restaurant hours are 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., Sunday through Thursday, and 10:30 a.m. to 11 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays.
Headquartered in Nashville, Captain D’s owns, operates and franchises restaurants in 20 states.
Captain D’s restaurants serve a wide variety of fish and seafood, including freshly prepared entrees, and the company’s signature hand-battered fish fillets, which are prepared to order.
Casa Marina Mexican restaurant closed Friday
After 13 years, Casa Marina, a popular Mexican restaurant, 4528, 76 Old Hickory Blvd. E, closed, Friday.
Owner Juan Garcia said he will be opening a new restaurant in Sparta, which is about 20 miles south of Cookeville.
JEA Board approves purchase of new vehicles
The purchase of 12 replacement vehicles and a new camera inspection system for the Wastewater Division, and recognition of those who worked storm damage in Florida, highlighted Jackson Energy Authority’s Board of Directors monthly meeting, Thursday.
The Board approved the purchase of four vehicles totaling $104,451 from Homer Skelton Chrysler Dodge Jeep of Millington; two vehicles totaling $69,451 from Lonnie Cobb Ford of Henderson and the purchase of six vehicles totaling $164,419.16 from Golden Circle Ford of Jackson.
The Board approved the purchase of a new Cues camera inspection system installed in a 2019 Freightliner Sprinter Van from Cues, Inc., of Orlando, Florida, based upon their low bid of $189,000.
“We approved several replacement vehicles for our fleet, and we’re also replacing our camera truck for our Wastewater Division,” Jim Ferrell said, “This is the truck that does our inspection for our Wastewater line.
“We also discussed JEA’s response to help out with the folks in the Florida Panhandle when Hurricane Michael came through, we sent a large crew, and they spent about a week in the Tallahassee area and this gave feedback to our board what they learned and the process they went through to help them to get power restored.”
JEA linemen who worked in Tallahasse were Charlie Jones, Travis Smith, Khayyan Henning, Jacob Myracle, Brad Henson, Nathan Cooke and Jason Towater.
JEA adding new water tank near Airport Industrial Park
The largest water tank on Jackson Energy Authority’s water system will be constructed near the Airport Industrial Park.
The cost for the 2.5 million gallon elevated tank is estimated at $4.5 million.
Steve Raper, Senior Vice President Water and Wastewater Systems at Jackson Energy Authority, said the tank will serve current water needs and provide for future growth in the area.
“The tank column will be constructed of reinforced concrete and the tank / bowl will be constructed of steel,” Raper said, “The time of completion is expected to be 20-to-21 months, and painting will be similar to other JEA water tanks.
“The last elevated water tank was built on Crawford Springs Road in 1999.”
Work continues on vacated convenience store on South Highland Avenue
Fuel tanks have been removed, but the owner of a vacated convenience store isn’t saying what’s next for the property at 1984 South Highland Avenue.
A spokesperson for GSD Petro LLC, which owns the property, would not say if the building will be renovated or removed for future development.
Ribbon cutting held at Jackson Storage Solutions, 602 S. Missouri St.
An outside investor has found south Jackson to his liking, and when David Peterson purchased Jackson Storage Solutions in May, expansion became a part of the blueprint.
A resident of Sandy, Utah, Peterson first visited the site at 602 S. Missouri St., in December, 2017.
Peterson said he knew a mutual friend of retired Jackson businessman Dennis Henderson, who owned the property.
The mutual friend is Anne Williams, a First Vice President of Investments for a commercial real estate firm, Marcus and Millichap.
“She showed us the property, amongst a group of other people, and when we saw the capability of the expansion, and where the property was located in south Jackson, we felt like we could have a really have a successful business by making that expansion,” Peterson said, “When we toured the facility in December (2017), we had 7.24 acres, and at the time, just over just over two acres of it developed.
“Now we’ve developed the other two acres, with another three acres we could develop for further expansion just south of the property.”
Jackson Storage Solutions is a modern and state-of-the-art facility with temperature controlled and convenient self storage units.
It offers convenient, drive-up access which minimizes the distance between an individuals vehicle and storage unit.
Including parking, Jackson Storage Solutions offers 323 units.
Storage buildings sizes are 5-by-10, 10-by-10, 10-by-15, 10-by-20, 10-by-30, 17.5-by-12.5, and muliple 12.5-by-10s.
Jackson Storage Solutions also offers RV parking – 14-by-45 – enclosed, covered and open.

Something new coming to Old Medina Crossing
Details are not available, but a new hotel, Home2 Suites by Hilton will be constructed at Old Medina Crossing on property between Old Medina Market and the Residence Inn by Marriott Jackson.
JHG Hospitality LLC purchased 3.22 acres from RMR Investment Company for $1,300,000.
The transaction was brokered by Eden Smith, Coldwell Banker Real Estate Now.
Home2 Suites by Hilton is described as a more affordable, all-suite extended-stay hotel featuring contemporary accommodations and customizable guest room design.
The Memphis-based hotel brand offers an affordable price point within the extended-stay segment, targeting both business and leisure travelers. Launched in January 2009, Home2 Suites by Hilton was the first new brand introduced by Hilton Worldwide in 20 years.
Home2 Suites hotels are 100 percent franchised.
Beer Board – 3 permits approved, 2 convenience stores fined, 1 hearing tabled
The Jackson Beer Board approved three requests for permits, fined two convenience stores as the result of an underage alcohol operation conducted by Metro Narcotics, and tabled one show-cause during a meeting at the City Council Chambers at City Hall, Tuesday.
AAA Convenience Store LLC – Bull Market No. 4 – 935 Hollywood Drive, had its beer license suspended for 30 days, but if a $1,500 fine is paid within seven days, the suspensions will be lifted.
The offense was the first for Bull Market No. 4.
Raceway 942 LLC, 2023 South Highland Ave., had its beer license suspended for 30 days, but if a $1,500 fine is paid within seven days, the suspension will be lifted.
The offense was the first for Raceway.
S&S Food Mart, 223 Airways Blvd., charged with selling alcohol to an underage informant, conducted by Metro Narcotics, Sept. 26, had its show-cause hearing delayed, due to a malfunction of equipment that checks identification at the convenience store.
Randy S. Hall was approved for a special occasion permit to sell, store and serve beer at an event held at Oman Arena (Friday & Saturday), known as the Cody Nance Invitational Professional Bull Ride.
Darwin Ruiz, owner of La Bamba Mexican Grocery Store and Deli, 480 Wiley Parker Road, was approved for a permit to sell, store and served beer on the premises where sold.
RI – Old Medina TN, LLC, was approved for a business known as Residence Inn Jackson, 126 Old Medina Crossing, was granted a permit to serve beer – complimentary – to its guests.
