Security fence approved for Jackson Christian School
A security fence and gate request was submitted and approved by the Jackson Municipal Regional Planning Commission for Jackson Christian School, 832 Country Club Lane, during their monthly meeting at City Hall, Wednesday.
The Tennessee State Legislature passed a state law requiring Planning Commission review for new security gates proposed for subdivisions and industrial facilities. The review is intended to ensure the opening mechanism is a radio operated controller device equipped with a radio receiver capable of receiving signals from the police, sheriff, fire, utility, and emergency medical radio transceivers which will allow rapid, reliable and mutual aid emergency service access to the facility or subdivision.
68,500-square-foot facility adding to growth at Jackson State Community College

With a target date set for January 2027, construction continues on the new Workforce Training Center on the Jackson State Community College Campus.
The new center is approximately 68,500-square-feet and will allow JSCC to have almost three times as many students as before and triple their engineering systems.
Inside the building, there will be about 10 classrooms, three engineering labs and three flex labs.
The center will house workforce development training classes, the computer information technology program (CIT) and the engineering systems technology program.
“It’s going to offer a lot of extra workforce training space,” said Preston Turner, Director of Physical Plant at JSCC. “CIT, which is a program that’s already on campus will move into the building,
“It will make way for additional space in the McWherter Center but there will be a lot of training opportunities for the community.”
Not only will the center be available to students already enrolled at JSCC but, it will also offer workforce training for community and industry needs. With the building being relatively large and allowing extra space, JSCC will be able to offer their Workforce Solutions Division during the regular semester.
This division gives community members an opportunity to receive certifications in industries like OSHA, On-site training and Human Resources training without having to obtain a degree.
While the training center was planned before Jackson State’s current administration, it is still part of the five-year plan JSCC recently announced titled “SEE Jackson State”.
According to Henry Kilpatrick, Chief Marketing and Communications Officer at JSCC, the Greater Jackson Chamber has consistently tried to get this construction in motion for the last 15 years.
Planning Commission approves preliminary site plan for convenience store
The consideration of a preliminary site plan for a new convenience store at the 300 Block of Walker Road – South of Union University Drive – was approved by the Jackson Municipal Regional Planning Commission during their August meeting at City Hall, Wednesday.
Site plans call for a 4,995-square-foot-building on approximately 1.56-acres, and will offer 25 parking spaces.
The Planned Unit Commercial Development was submitted by Dwight Barker on behalf of 2k.LLC.
Tractor Supply begins site work on new Jackson location
Tractor Supply Company has started groundwork on its new store in Jackson after purchasing property on North Highland Avenue this past week for $1,102,000 from Hayes Properties.
Martin Paving is handling the site work.
The retailer first announced plans for the New Jackson, TN location on Talk-N West TN on May 17.
The store is going up on North Highland Avenue across from The Summit, at the corner of North Highland and Passmore Lane. It will replace the current location on Carriage House Drive.
The new site will include Tractor Supply’s standard layout with an expanded garden center, pet supplies, livestock feed, hardware, tools, and workwear.
No official opening date has been announced yet, but dirt is now moving on one of Jackson’s busiest commercial corridors.

The Wise Company, 765 Industrial Road in Savannah has closed.
The company employed 130 employees.
The Wise Company produces premium OEM and aftermarket seats for boats (including pontoons, bass boats, and cruisers) and other equipment including forklifts, golf carts, and ambulances, serving customers globally from its Tennessee, Illinois, and Arkansas facilities.
According to the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act or WARN Act, a notice has not been filed.
The WARN Act offers protection to workers, their families and communities by requiring employers to provide notice 60 days in advance of plant closings, mass layoffs and/or sale of a business.
Per the states website no WARN notice has been filed.
