JACKSON, TN….The national weather service says our area received 3 – 5 inches of rain
in a brief time and created hazardous flooding conditions. Numerous flash
flood watches were issued as reports of water over roads made some areas of
Madison County impassable by vehicle.
The Madison County Fire Department responded to a call of a stranded
driver in the Three-way and Turners Loop area. The driver attempted to
drive through approximately a foot of flood water and stalled his car’s
motor. The stranded motorist stayed with the vehicle until firefighters
could safely reach him.
Jonathan Hollowell with the National Weather Service says a low-pressure
system to the north pulled moisture from Hurricane Harvey and that setup
the conditions for the heavy rains.
Humboldt Fire Chief Lee Kail said his crews had to evacuate several
residents around the Mullins and Dotson Ave area. Humboldt City Schools
dismissed early due to the flooding conditions.
We can expect a few scattered showers in our area through Wednesday but
then our chance for rain and thunderstorms increase as what is expected to
be tropical depression Harvey makes its way north and east.
Madison County Fire Department Captain Don Friddle reminds drivers to
“Turn Around, Don’t Drown”. Even water that looks like just a few inches
over the road can turn into a disaster.
