Gray Campbell named head coach of Union University’s golf programs

JACKSON, Tenn. – Union University has named Gray Campbell as the next head coach for the men’s and women’s golf programs. Campbell spent the 2025-26 season as golf assistant coach for Union coaching legend, Andy Rushing, who retired at season’s end. Gray is son Mark Campbell, the former Union women’s basketball hall of fame coach of 27 years, and current director of athletics.

Mark Campbell said, “I watched Gray his entire life. Once he is committed to something he watches, listens, and tries to perfect the craft. He will do the same as a golf coach here at Union. He has loved Union golf and he desires to honor the Lord in doing it. This summer has been evidence to me that the program will continue to pursue excellence on the course and off. It honors me that he also is coaching!”

As assistant coach in 2025-26, Campbell helped lead the teams to program best finishes in the Gulf South Conference Tournament. The men’s matched its best finish in third place, while the women’s team matched its best finish in fourth place. Lane Carr (2nd) and Abigail Fernandez (5th) both earned all-tournament honors.

Gray Campbell said, “I am very grateful for the opportunity Union and Dr. Oliver are giving me to be a head coach at such young age. I love Union and everything it stands for, and I am beyond excited to see where the golf program can go. Golf has been a huge blessing in my life, and I look forward to providing opportunities for young men and women to be the best that they can be both as players and in their walk with Jesus.”
