JACKSON TN – Authorities have released the name of the victim in Monday’s shooting on Willa Drive as Gavin Hardin.
Hardin was a standout football player at Jackson Central-Merry High School, who later played at the University of Miami.
On Monday, Jackson Police and EMS responded to a call of shots fired at 22 B Willa Drive just before 12:30 p.m. Upon arrival police say they discovered a victim in serious condition suffering from gunshot wounds.
Witnesses provided a description of a vehicle fleeing the scene. Officers found this vehicle a short time later and detained the occupants.
Officers and EMS at the crime scene on Willa Drive found Hardin suffering from gunshot wounds. Hardin was transported by ambulance to a local hospital, then airlifted to a Memphis hospital where he later died.
According to authorities, their investigation shows Hardin was armed with a gun and arrived at Jarvis Miller’s home on Willa Drive with the intent to confront Miller. Miller then shot Hardin during this confrontation.
Investigators consulted with the District Attorney General’s Office, and they determined that Miller shot Hardin in self-defense. Miller will not face charges for the shooting; however, Miller was charged with Tampering with Evidence. Miller was arraigned in Jackson City Court on Wednesday, March 15.
