  • The Seasonally Adjusted Unemployment Rate for Tennessee stood at 3.5% in January, down from 3.6% in the previous month.
  • The Seasonally Adjusted Unemployment Rate for the United States was 4.3% in January, down from 4.5% in December.
  • The unemployment rate was under 5% in 84 counties in January.
  • Williamson County had the lowest unemployment rate at 2.7%. Perry County had the highest unemployment rate at 11.3%.

Commercial property at 2625 North Highland Avenue has been sold.

 

EPRT Tennessee Properties LLC purchased the property – which is home to Scooter’s Coffee – from Black Cypress Pyramid LLC for $1,328,000.

 

Scooter’s Coffee, America’s second-largest drive-thru coffee chain, opened the North Highland Avenue location on November 6.

 

Scooter’s opened its first Jackson drive-thru at 1732 South Highland Avenue on July 21, 2025.

 

Greater Jackson Chamber announces 2025-2026 Leadership University graduates

 

Thirty-nine aspiring young leaders have completed the 2025-2026 Leadership University program, a community youth leadership development program of the Greater Jackson Chamber. The class represents all public, private and home-schooled juniors in Jackson – Madison County high schools.

 

Leadership University is a ten-month program designed to identify a diverse group of high school students who demonstrate leadership potential; and to develop in an interactive environment, the framework for constructive leadership, committed involvement and responsible participation in the future of this community. The major sponsors of the program this year are Union University and Jackson State Community College. Leadership Sponsors include Allen Samuels, Jackson Energy Authority, Leaders Credit Union, MG Construction Company, and The University of Memphis -Lambuth.

 

The program also had numerous supporting sponsors whose contribution is invaluable.

 

“Working with this Leadership University class has been such a rewarding experience,” said Ryan Blake, vice-chair of Leadership University. “We’ve had the opportunity to watch these students learn, grow, and build the skills they need to become strong future leaders in our community.

 

“It has been inspiring to see them encourage one another, share different perspectives, and step up in meaningfulways throughout the year. Congratulations to the Leadership University Class of 2026!

During the celebration, class members were recognized for their achievements and received their Leadership University graduate certificate of completion. Ben Cates, Jackson Christian School, received the honor of the Judy Renshaw Youth Leadership Award for surpassing all requirements in Leadership University.

 

Throughout the program, class members completed 64 classroom hours, 989 hours of community service, and a group project. Leadership University students discussed ethical leadership with local leaders, participated in mock job interviews, tackled alcohol and drug issues, and other activities.

Ford ‘Good Neighbor Plan’ investments approaching $11.7 million in West Tennessee

 

Ford announced that a year after they launched the Good Neighbor Plan for West Tennessee, a $9 million investment into the communities that surround BlueOval City, they have exceeded their goal and there is more to come.

 

In a letter addressed to “our West Tennessee Neighbors”, Ford announced Wednesday, they have already invested nearly $11.7 million in West Tennessee and reached this milestone much earlier than anticipated.

 

The letter is cosigned by Ford Director of Community Relations Gabby Bruno, President of Ford Philanthropy Mary Culler and Co-Chair of Ford’s Equitable Growth Advisory Council Emma Covington.

 

“The result is real-world impact that we’re seeing right in our backyard,” the letter says. “Since the launch of the Good Neighbor Plan, we’ve focused our efforts on the things that matter most to you.”

 

5 special occasion, 2 business permits approved during monthly Beer Board meeting

 

The Jackson Beer Board approved seven permits – five special occasion and two business – during their monthly meeting at Jackson City Hall, Tuesday.

 

Special Occasion Permits were approved for –

 

Randy Hall, Starfire Promotions LLC, for an event known as  Jackson TN. Hemp Fest, at the Farmers Market/AMP, to sell, store and serve on  April 18.

 

Tony Neihoff, for an event known as the St Mary’s Booster Club Event, 1664 US Highway 45 Bypass,  Jackson, to sell, store and serve on April 18.

 

Goodman Ramirez, G-Man Entertainment, for an event at 2310 North Highland Suite C- Picture Perfect Event Center to sell, store, and serve on April 25.

 

Sarah Smith, for an event known as the ‘Friends of Heart’, at the Madison Downs venue, to sell, store, and serve on May 1.

 

Dr. Delitha Johnson, for a Jackson Arts Council Event, within the Ned R. McWherter Cultural Arts  Center, to sell, store and serve on May 21.

Richard Corley, Hub City Deli, 2062-B Pleasant Plains  Ext., for selling, storing and serving on the premises where sold.
