After Union University won the NCAA Division 2 South Region title, the school earned its first trip to the Elite 8 – and Jada Perkins is looking for an extended stay.
“We’re excited,” Jada said. “We have a positive attitude going in, but we didn’t come this far to quit.”
Where Union is going is Sioux Falls, South Dakota, where the Lady Bulldogs will face Carson-Newman at 2:30 p.m., Monday – looking for a berth in the Tournament’s National semifinals.
Perkins, a junior point guard from North Side High School, has started all 34 games this year for the Lady Bulldogs, where she averages 10 points per game, hitting 122 of 245 field goal attempts, or roughly 50 percent.
She has 200 assists, and an assist/turnover ratio of 2.6, which is tops in the Gulf South Conference and seventh nationally in the NCAA Division II.
Jada has made 21 of her 65 attempts (.323) from behind the 3-point line, and she carries a .745 average from the free throw line, where she’s made 76 of 102.
She is Union’s second leading, pulling down 200 for an average of 5.5 per game, and leads the Lady Bulldogs in steals – 85 for the season, 3.5 per game – second in Gulf South Conference play.
