Union University basketball – Boykin, Williams earn All-American honors

JACKSON, Tenn. – Union University’s Tyree Boykin was named All-American for both the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) and the Division II Conference Commissioner’s Association (D2CCA).

Boykin was first-team All-America for NABC and was honorable mention D2CCA.

Boykin, a 6-foot-1 senior guard from Clarksville, Tennessee, adds these two All-America honors to an already long list of awards for 2021-22. Boykin earned two all-region awards, was the Gulf South Conference Player of the Year, GSC first-team All-Conference, and GSC All-Tournament.

He led the Bulldogs to a 24-9 record, the best record since joining the GSC in 2012 and the most wins by a Union men’s team at the NCAA D2 level, passing the previous high of 22 wins in 1968. Union finished runner-up in both the GSC regular season and tournament, both program bests. Union also advanced to the NCAA D2 Round of 32, falling in the region semifinals to the nation’s No. 1 team and unbeaten Nova Southeastern on a last-second shot.

For his career to this point, Boykin has accumulated 1,685 points, 209 rebounds, 189 assists, and 76 steals. He has made 291 career 3-pointers at a 40% clip.

This season, Boykin led the GSC with 19.5 points per game and hit 103-of-270 3-pointers for 38 percent.

Union’s Williams earns All-America honors from WBCA, D2CCA

JACKSON, Tenn. – Union University’s Jaelencia Williams has earned All-America honors from both the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and the Division II Conference Commissioner’s Association (D2CCA).

She was named first-team WBCA All-American and second-team D2CCA All-American.

Williams, a 6-foot-2 center from Indianapolis, Ind., completed a stellar three-year career at Union with numerous awards. She adds her two All-America awards to a pair of all-region honors, D2CCA South Region Player of the Year, Gulf South Conference Player of the Year, GSC Tournament Most Outstanding Player, first-team All-GSC, GSC All-Tournament, and South Region All-Tournament.

For her career, Williams finished with 1,918 points (1,426 coming in the last three years at Union). She grabbed 1,104 rebounds, 262 blocks, 183 assists, and 52 steals for her 5-year career. As a senior, she posted 16.1 points and 9.2 rebounds per game. She started all 31 games for Union, posting 81 assists, 74 blocks, and shot 60 percent from the field.
