Two Teens can be Tried as Adults in August Attempted Robbery and Shooting

Two teens responsible for an early morning robbery attempt and shooting can be tried as adults.

Following a transfer hearing today in Madison County Juvenile Court, Judge Christy Little ruled that there was probable cause that 16-year-old Llyntrell Jones, and 17-year-old Jerron Huey committed the crimes they were charged with. Judge Little further ruled that the case can proceed to adult court.

Jones' and Huey's bonds were set at $25,000 each. They were transported from the juvenile detention center to the Madison County Jail.

The case will now be presented to the Madison County grand jury.

Shortly after 7 a.m. on Aug. 20, Jackson police were called to the corner of Campbell and Wisdom Streets. A 53-year-old man told officers that as he walked on the 500 block of Campbell Street, he saw two male teens on a porch. When he walked past them, they called out to him and told him to come back.

The man started walking back toward the teens when he saw one of them with a gun in his hand. The man turned and walked away. He then heard gunshots. He ran and called police.

Officers searched the area and went back to the house where the teens had been seen. Police developed persons of interest and learned that they had just been taken to school.

Investigators went to the school and identified the two teens as Jones and Huey. They were taken into custody and transported to the juvenile detention center.

Further investigation determined that Jones and Huey saw the man walking and called him over to rob him. When the man ran away, Huey shot at him multiple times. Huey then discarded the gun, and he and Jones went to school.

Police charged both teens with attempted aggravated robbery and aggravated assault. Huey was additionally charged with tampering with evidence.

After conferring with prosecutors, investigators intend to present an attempted murder charge to the grand jury instead of aggravated assault.
