Construction has started on a new micro-retail development “The Local,” at the corner of West Lafayette Street and North Shannon Street in downtown Jackson.
MG Construction is building the development that will consist of three separate 300-square-foot facilities.
Presented by the Jackson Downtown Development Corporation, the units will provide physical micro-retail spaces for local entrepreneurs and artisans to sell their goods and develop their businesses in a low overhead environment.
“We’re looking at a six-to-eight week timeline,” said Paul Taylor, vice president and board member of the Jackson Downtown Development Corporation. “We already have interest, and we’re still taking applications.”
A green space will be attached and will accommodate various types of programming to enhance the social aspect of the project.
The development was made possible by a grant from the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development.
