Saturday marks the most wonderful time of year- football time!

College football begins as the Vanderbilt Commodores battle it out against the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors.

Coming off a two game win streak to close out the season, Hawaii, while not great, have a bright spot to build on in the form of a steady offense. Defense seems to be the bigger issue as Hawaii gave up 31.4 points a game.

Clark Lea and his Commodores’ have something they haven’t had in a long time: hope for the future.

The biggest star on Vandy’s roster belongs to LB Anfernee Orji, a senior who made 92 total tackles last season with 13 for loss last season.

Let’s not ignore the obvious, while the ‘Dores have good pieces; Vanderbilt will have a young roster in 2022 with true freshmen and redshirt freshmen accounting for nearly half of its scholarship players. At the same time, the Commodores’ quarterbacks aren’t so young anymore and the defense should get stingier with Lea taking a bigger role on that side of the ball.
