A proposed 48-bed inpatient rehabilitation hospital on the campus of Jackson-Madison County General Hospital is about five months from becoming reality.
“West Tennessee Healthcare and HealthSouth Corporation began construction several months ago for their future inpatient rehabilitation hospital located at 616 West Forest Ave. in Jackson,” Dr. Lisa Piercey said. “The name of the new inpatient hospital – Spire Rehabilitation Hospital – was unveiled at the ceremonial groundbreaking in October. Spire symbolizes the pinnacle of rehabilitative care.”
Dr. Piercey, MD, MBA, FACHE executive vice president West Tennessee Healthcare, said West Tennessee Healthcare’s inpatient rehabilitation has long been a top choice for patients and their doctors.
“With Spire, we will have more capacity to provide that high level of care, and in a setting that inspires hope and healing,” Dr. Piercey said. “We want people to look to Spire as an emblem of the bright future of healthcare in West Tennessee.”
Dr. Piercey said Spire Rehabilitation Hospital will offer 48 all-private patient rooms, including one isolation room, four bariatric rooms, and 10 rooms equipped for patients needing dialysis treatments during their stay.
“Also included in the 57,066-square-foot hospital will be a spacious therapy gym, courtyard, dining and dayroom areas,” Dr. Piercey said. “The inpatient rehabilitation hospital will serve patients overcoming a variety of debilitating illnesses and injuries including stroke, brain injury, spinal cord injury, complex orthopedic conditions and amputations.
“Some of the benefits of receiving care through an inpatient rehabilitation hospital include 15 hours per week of intense therapy, a team approach to patient-centered care, frequent visits from independent practice physicians and 24/7 oversight from registered nurses, many of whom have achieved specialty training and expertise in physical rehabilitation.”
HealthSouth Corporation — one of the nation’s largest providers of post-acute services is located in 33 states and Puerto Rico — including seven in the state. Cane Creek Rehabilitation Hospital in Martin is one of the facilities operated by HealthSouth.
When complete, the new facility will replace the existing facility located inside Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
