O’Reilly’s opens on North Parkway
O’Reilly’s, an auto parts retailer, has opened at 877 North Parkway, formerly the home of Pier 1 Imports.
Store hours are 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Sundays.
A grand opening is scheduled for Wednesday through May 22.
O’Reilly’s also has retail stores at 3204 North Highland Avenue, and 1300 South Highland Avenue
Seth Nelson expands his offerings with Farmer’s Perk Coffee
Seth Nelson, who founded the Farmer’s Perk Organic Coffee Co., in 2012, has expanded his product line with Cock-A-Doodle Dough Craft Donuts.
“I had been thinking about expanding into food products,” Seth said. “It came to me nothing made more sense than donuts and coffee.”
Seth also expanded his boundaries, and three days a week he – and his food truck – can be found in downtown Jackson at the corner of Main and Liberty Streets.
“We are on the court square from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m., each Wednesday, Thursday and Friday,” Seth said. “We’re still at the (West Tennessee) Farmers’ Market from 7 a.m. to Noon on Saturday’s. Everything we make is made to order.”
The product is also available at the Dixie Cafe in the Old Country Store.
“We’re not limited to Jackson,” Seth said. “We visit different venues throughout West Tennessee, and we also cater.”

SpringHill Suites Marriott holds ground breaking on Christmasville Cove
Raj Patel and his family made it official when they broke ground on a new SpringHill Suites Marriott at 2407 Christmasville Cove, Thursday.
Located in Park Place West and operated by Cumberland Hospitality, the 95-room hotel is scheduled to open in 12 to 14 months.
“All the rooms will be suites so they will be 25 percent larger than normal rooms,” Raj said. “This is our second project in Jackson, the first being Fairfield Inn and Suites we built off Vann Drive about three years ago. We’ve had great success here so we decided to do another project, and we’re excited to break ground and hope to be open next summer.”
Checkers Drive-Thru Restaurant on schedule for late May opening
Checkers Drive-Thru remains on schedule to open at 620 Carriage House Drive in late May.
Menu items will include hamburgers, fries, hot dogs, chicken, fish, wings, ice cream and soft drinks for the restaurant, which is one of the largest chains of double drive-thru restaurants in the United States.
The restaurant is co-owned by Jackson businessmen Riad Razeq and Ziyad Qaadan.
Hoyt Hayes Construction is building the 1,000-square-foot facility located between Logan’s Roadhouse and O’Charley’s Restaurant & Bar.
Jackson City Council updated on area development
Updates on projects in Districts 1 and 2 of the Community Reinvestment Act, and the allocation of about $423,000 to improve seating at the Carl Perkins Civic Center highlighted the Jackson City Council’s monthly meeting at Jackson City Hall, Tuesday.
“We made a presentation before the City Council … a progress report on what we are doing in District 1 for the CRA,” Hal Crocker said. “We just completed our (High Point) apartment buildings (and) we have new homes we’re working on on Deaderick Street, Morgan Street and Johnson Street … trying to make a connection between downtown, Jackson Walk and the University of Memphis Lambuth.”

Crocker, who owns Crocker Construction Company, said 34 new homes have been built near the apartment complexes.
“A lot of progress has been made, especially downtown, with Jackson Walk and the Roundabout (and) we’re glad to hear about 30 percent of those new one bedroom (High Point) apartments have been leased,” said Jerry Gist, mayor of Jackson. “District 2 has made some progress … Whitehall and F.E. Wright Drive with commercial development.”
District 2 – Bennigan’s out; Mexican restaurant in at 1118 Whitehall Street
Bennigan’s, an Irish pub-themed casual dining restaurant, has been released from its contract at 1118 Whitehall Street.
David Hunt, who is developing Bre Avenue at Madison Place, made the announcement during the Jackson City Council’s monthly meeting at Jackson City Hall, Tuesday.
Hunt said the $27 average cost of a meal at Bennigan’s is “Not viable in this market.”
Before the meeting, Hunt said he has three tenants for the 18,000-square-foot retail center on the southeast corner of Dr. F.E. Wright Drive and Whitehall Street.
Hunt said Mio Toro, a Mexican restaurant will join Loving Arms Adult Day Care and Dove Family Dentistry.
Early to late summer are the target dates for the three new businesses to open.
Expect some traffic delays as Roundabout construction picks up
Work continues on a new Roundabout, which is under construction on North Highland Avenue, between East and West Deaderick Streets.
“The projected outlook for completion is October,” said Jerry Gist, mayor of Jackson. “The work on the Roundabout itself has not started, but when it does, you can expect some traffic delays.”
The contract to build the roundabout was awarded to Ford Construction Company at a cost of $1,793,899.54.
Madison Place holds ribbon cutting
One ribbon cutting covered a lot of ground, when Madison Place held its grand opening at 565 Carriage House Drive, Monday.
The 8,000-square-foot building, located across Carriage House Drive from the Bank of Jackson, offers 29 diversity suites.
“We’ve been open for four months, and we have 27 suites rented,” owner Phillip Jackson said.
A few of the businesses include three boutiques, a massage therapist, nail techs, hair salon and a cafe.
Phillip said he discovered the concept in Scottsdale, Arizona.
The facility was once home to an El Chico Mexican Restaurant and Besso’s, an Italian restaurant.
