Starbucks sets sights on downtown location
The first step for a return of Starbucks to downtown Jackson was approved by the Jackson Municipal Regional Planning Commission during its monthly meeting at City Hall, Wednesday.
The restaurant is scheduled to be located at 203 North Highland Ave., which is next door to The Blacksmith Restaurant.
The new Starbucks will be the ninth in Jackson-Madison County.

Construction continues on a new Starbucks restaurant at 2851 Christmasville Cove in Park Place West.
An opening date has not been announced, but the 2,100-square-foot facility, located on a 1.7 acre corner lot – across from McDonald’s – will offer parking for 25 vehicles.
Southern Airways Express – Department of Transportation approves new air service for Jackson
Jackson, TENNESSEE – The U.S. Department of Transportation has selected Southern Airways Express LLC (Southern Airways) to provide Essential Air Service (EAS) at Jackson, Tennessee for a two-year period from June 1, 2022, to May 31, 2024.
Southern Airways Chairman and CEO Stan Little said, “We have rebuilt community air service many times before, and we understand how to do it. You will see our executives highly involved in the Jackson community. Having been born and raised in Humboldt, I will take extra pride in seeing Southern serve my hometown Jackson airport.”
Southern Airways will provide three daily departures to Atlanta from McKellar-Sipes Regional Airport, with fares ranging from $69 to $99 each way, as well as offering weekend seasonal flights to Destin, Florida.
Additionally, Southern Airways interline ticketing and baggage agreements with American, United, and Alaska Airlines afford passengers the opportunity to book flights between Jackson and their final destination in one single transaction via iFlySouthern.com.
Megasite set to announce 2nd tenant
Details are limited, but a second tenant is set to announce it will take the 500 remaining acres at the Memphis Regional Megasite in Haywood County.
Clay Bright, CEO of the Memphis Regional Megasite, made the announcement when the Haywood County Commission met, Monday.
Governor Bill Lee appointed Tennessee Department of Transportation Commissioner Clay Bright as the Chief Executive Officer of the Megasite Authority of West Tennessee in October 2021, which will oversee the development of the Ford plant in Stanton.
The announcement becomes official in the next two- to three months.
In September 2021, the Ford Motor Company announced it would invest $5.6 billion for an electric vehicle and battery manufacturing campus that will create 5,800 jobs at the 4,100-acre Megasite.
Business Spotlight – Melinda Reid new LIFELINE Blood Services Marketing Manager
JACKSON, TENNESSEE – LIFELINE Blood Services announces that Melinda Reid will serve as their new Marketing Manager, effective March 28.
Reid has replaced Caitlin Roach, who had served as Lifeline’s Marketing Manager since 2020.

Reid, a Jackson native and graduate of Jackson Central-Merry High School, earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with an emphasis in graphic design from Mississippi State University.
She joins Lifeline Blood Services from Adoration Home Health where she served as an account executive. She was previously the Executive Director for Jackson Arts Council for eight years.
