MEMPHIS, TN. - Federal Emergency Management Agency Special Weather Statement issued January 5 by NWS Memphis TN Areas Affected: including the entire WNWS 101.5 FM listening area. Light snow accumulations are possible across the Mid-South today through Friday evening. Snow totals are forecast to range from a light dusting up to 1 inch. Impacts are expected to be minor given the anticipated light accumulations. The primary impacts will be potential travel problems, especially on elevated road surfaces and secondary roads. Temperatures will be near or below freezing Thursday evening through Saturday morning. Light snow will continue this morning, mainly affecting portions of northwest Tennessee, northeast Arkansas, and the Missouri Bootheel. Accumulations will remain light, with the greatest potential closer to the Kentucky state line. A second system will approach the Mid-South late Thursday night. A band of light snow is expected to develop over the area, gradually shifting south by Friday evening. At this time, this snow band is expected to remain along and south of Interstate 40, with the highest potential for accumulations up to 1 inch mainly over north Mississippi. Light snow is forecast to taper off Friday evening.
