Record year for the Blue Suede Dinner and Auction

Donations are still rolling in, but so far 2023 has been a gold mine for the Exchange Club Carl Perkins Center for the Prevention of Child Abuse.

The 29th annual “Blue Suede Dinner and Auction” event has brought in over $435,000. The final total isn’t in yet, but organizers said the total could be as high as $450,000. All money from some of the auction items donated by local businesses has not been collected. There is also a live auction of trips and other large ticket items that were donated.

Lauren “LOLO” Prichard Cobb and Chris Allison served as co-chairs for the event, heading a team of volunteers and staff from the Center. It was a New York City connection between LOLO and a cast member of The Greatest Piano Men that brought the tribute artists to town. She worked with one of the talented pianists on Broadway.

The crowd of nearly 1,000 reminisced to the music of Billy Joel, Elton John, Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, Liberace, and other piano greats. Dinner was provided by Jackson’s Kitchen and Catering, the new catering service operated by Rockin’ Dough Pizza; with desserts by Basil and Bourbon.

The next event to benefit the Center is the Andrew Jackson Marathon, a qualifier for the Boston Marathon, which brings runners to Jackson from all over the country.

The marathon is set for April 1 through historical downtown Jackson, The University of Memphis at Lambuth campus, and surrounding neighborhoods. To register to run or volunteer visit runsignup.com
