When not working for the Madison County Sheriff’s Department, TJ King is a regular in the press box at the Ballpark at Jackson helping cover the Jackson Generals.
TJ took a few minutes to tell us about his work with the Sheriff’s Department and the Generals in a question and answer session with WNWS.COM.
Question: Where are you originally from and where did you go to school.
Answer: I graduated from McNairy Central High School in 1996, and Austin Peay State University in 1999, with a bachelor of science in Public Management and an emphasis criminal justice.
Question: How did you become interested in law enforcement, and how long have you been working in that particular field?
Answer: I have wanted to be an FBI agent since about the eighth grade. I’ve been in law enforcement since 2004. I was with the Martin Police Department from 2004 to 2008, and the Madison County Sheriff’s Office from 2008 to the present.
Question: When did you begin working for the Madison County Sheriff’s Department, and will you describe your title?
Answer: I started working for the Sheriff’s Office June 1, 2008, and currently I am working as a Sergeant in the Criminal Investigations Division (CID) in the Violent Crime Unit.
Question: What is the most difficult part of your job?
Answer: Telling someone that their loved one(s) are hurt or not coming home is definitely one of the most difficult parts of my job.
Question: In what department did you work when you first went to work at the Sheriff’s Office?
Answer: I started in patrol; worked as a School Resource Officer for over a year, and then as an Investigator.
Question: You also work for the Jackson Generals. How long, and what type of work do you do for the club?
Answer: I started working for the Jackson Generals in April of this year (2017), and I work in the pressbox in a variety of positions and responsibilities. I work as a Stringer – a position that inputs the play-by-play information into a computer online.
I also operate the Pitch Clock – a position that keeps track of time in between innings, pitches, et cetera, to help move the game along, and TrackMan – a position that keeps track of each individual pitch.
It includes the speed, rotation, result, as well as the speed and distance the pitch is hit, and official scorer.
