Police say woman assaulted over $30 debt

BROWNSVILLE, Tenn.—The woman who was assaulted yesterday morning on Cobb Circle is severely injured according to Police Chief Barry Diebold. A hammer-wielding man about 5:30 a.m. attacked Latoya Richardson Tuesday.

Richardson is being treated at Regional One Hospital in Memphis. Diebold says she has multiple head injuries and broken bones in her right hand and arm.

Isaiah Wilson, 28, has been charged. Wilson was the driver of a pickup truck that left the scene at Cobb Circle and East Cherry and wouldn’t stop for police. He eventually left the road and hit a house located at Park Avenue and East College Street. There were people in the home but no one was hurt. Wilson suffered minor injuries. Diebold said police used a taser to subdue him.

“The victim … stated that Wilson forced open her door and entered her home at the corner of Cobb Circle and Cherry Street with a hammer in his hand demanding she pay him the $30.00 she owed him. Wilson struck the victim in the head with the hammer,” Diebold wrote in a news release published last evening.

Wilson has been charged with especially aggravated burglary, attempted 1st degree homicide, felony evading arrest, resisting arrest and other traffic offenses.

The incident is still under active investigation and additional charges could follow, according to the release.
