Police Charge Subway Restaurant Employee with False Reporting and Theft over $1,000

Jackson police have charged a Subway restaurant employee with filing a false

police report and theft over $1,000 for fabricating a story about being robbed
in downtown Jackson yesterday afternoon and stealing the restaurant's
deposit.

25-yeaar-old Kristi Wells, 25 of Henderson, was arraigned at 8 a.m. Thursday in Jackson City
Court. She is being held at the Madison County Jail on $20,000 bond.

Wells' next court appearance is 1:30 p.m. Oct. 17 in Jackson City Court.

Shortly before 3 p.m. Wednesday, police were called to Subway at 122 E.
Baltimore Street about a robbery. Wells told officers that she was robbed at
gunpoint by two men while taking the business' deposit to the bank. Wells
provided a detailed description of the robbers and an SUV that they had
allegedly fled in.

During the investigation, police developed inconsistencies in Wells' story.
Further investigation determined that Wells made up the story about being
robbed and stole more than $1,000 from Subway.

The investigation is ongoing as police believe Wells had an accomplice.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Jackson Police Department's
Major Crimes Bureau at 731-425-8400 or Crime Stoppers at 731-424-8477
