The final phase of dove season ended Sunday, but if you're interested, squirrel, rabbit and quail season runs through Feb. 28. Bag limits are 10 for squirrel; five for rabbit and six for quail. Fishing Report Pickwick Lake Water temperature: 51 degrees. Elevation 413.96 - Bass: "I have been on a few fishing trips above and below the dam lately, and some trips have produced big fish and a few small ones to go with them," Clagett Talley said. "Old grassy areas in the lake are still producing good fish at times, although the grass pretty much dies down right now." Clagett, a tour guide from Savannah, said Texas rigged Strike King Rage Tail in pumpkin seed and green pumpkin coffee tubes have been the best baits for most of the fish caught in these areas. "The weather will make bass fishing tough over the next few weeks," Clagett said. "But this is still (the) time where you are likely to catch (your) biggest fish of the year." - Stripers: "I am not doing any striper fishing trips right now mainly because this is just a slow time of the year for them," Clagett said. "If I were to take someone striper fishing right now, I would depend on a deep-diving crankbait to keep the trip interesting. Although I know you can have a good day on live bait and jigs drifting right now, I would not try it first. - Catfish: "After talking to a few catfishermen while I was on a sauger fishing trip I was told that catfishing has slowed down a lot," Clagett said. "The water from all the rain has muddied the river and really made it hard on all species right now below the dam. Most catfishermen are using worms bought out of bait stores in deep water." - Sauger: Clagett said if you are fishing for sauger, it has been a little slow during the last couple of weeks. The approach Clagett has been taking, is fishing with a plastic grub on a sauger jig while bouncing it in 25-feet of water. Want more from the "Mayor of Pickwick Lake?" "Everyone can check out Kentucky Lake levels at tva.gov/Environment/Lake-Levels/Kentucky for the most up to date level information." Darrell Van Vactor is Operations Manager Crappie USA/Cabela's King Kat Trail in Benton, Kentucky. - Bass: "Bass are doing fair on rocky main lake points," Darrell said. "We have done better on the east side of Kentucky Lake by targeting the points with a lot of chunk rock present," Darrell said. "Fish slow, slow ... slow casting silver blade baits and jigs. The bite is really lite and lighter line and equipment seem to get more bites." - Crappie: "They are still going well in brush piles and stake beds from eight-to-12 feet of water," Darrell said. "It seems like the deeper cover is holding a little better quality of fish with many taken the past few days in the 11-to-12-inch range." Darrell said the the shallower piles have more fish in them, but you find yourself measuring every fish caught and keeping one-in-five that are over 10-inches long," Darrell said. "Best baits have been ice blue color shad bodies and red/chartreuse tube tails." Darrell said casting over the cover with a one-eighth ounce jig, and letting it fall just long enough to stay over the top of the cover has worked the best, but we have caught several vertical jigging over the deeper cover," Darrell said. "Attractant scents on the jigs is a must this time of the year. We have found most of the crappie halfway back in the larger bays and the bite is better early morning." - Catfish: "They are stacked up in the main river channel in 45-to-55-feet of water, and hitting large minnows or yellowtail shad ... really well. - David Thomas
