Old Country Store celebrates Jackson-Madison County’s Bicentennial with Historic Structures Tour – Saturdays in April

Jackson, Tennessee – As part of the Jackson-Madison County Bicentennial’s architecture and open houses theme, Brooks Shaw’s Old Country Store will host a Historic Structures Tour every Saturday in April.

According to a press release from Tajuana Cheshier – The Bramblett Group – tickets are $12 per person and include a guided walking tour of Casey Jones’ Home, the Village Chapel and the Providence House, and guests will finish the tour with a scoop of Blue Bell ice cream from Miss Anne’s Ice Cream Shoppe. Tours begin hourly starting at 10 a.m. The last tour of the day starts at 2 p.m. April 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30.

During the walking tour, guests will learn more about the Providence House, built in 1837 in Trenton, Tennessee and the tallest building in town that was witness to the Civil War Battle of Trenton in 1862, the Village Chapel constructed in 1905 in Haywood County and Casey Jones’ historic home, where he lived his wife, Mary Joanna (Janie) Brady, and their three children, Charles, Helen and John Luther Jr. The home was located at 211 West Chester Street and later moved to its current location. Jones was an American railroader killed in April 1900 when his 382 Engine passenger train collided with a stalled freight train. Jones’ actions saved passengers’ lives, but he perished in the accident.
