From the Madison County Sheriff’s Office –
The Madison County Sheriff’s Office announced today that former Madison County Sheriff’s Office Detention Specialist John Michael Flowers pleaded No Contest to a charge of Simple Assault today in Madison County Circuit Court.
A charge of Official Misconduct was dismissed. Flowers was sentenced to 11 months 29 days of probation with a requirement of community service.
The case arose out of an incident that occurred while a defendant was being booked into the Madison County Criminal Justice Complex.
Upon reviewing video of the incident, the jail commander immediately informed the Sheriff’s office command staff and took the video of the incident to them.
After Sheriff John Mehr reviewed the video he immediately notified District Attorney General Jody Pickens and delivered the video to him. Mehr fired Flowers shortly thereafter.
The case was investigated by TBI and FBI and state charges were brought against Flowers.
