Man Pleads Guilty to Reckless Homicide in Shooting Death of Friend

On Monday, 26 year-old Terence Greer  pleaded guilty in the shooting death of a friend, 20 year-old Kimberly Lindsay.

Greer pleaded guilty to reckless homicide in Madison County Circuit Court, Division II. He will return to Circuit Court on August 19 at 1:30 p.m. for sentencing. He faces a punishment of two to four years in prison and up to a $5,000 fine.

Greer is currently serving an 8-year sentence in the Tennessee Department of Corrections for unrelated drug and weapon charges that occurred in 2011. Greer had been released from jail on bond for those charges when he killed Lindsay.

BACKGROUND

On July 26, 2012, around 3:05 a.m., police were called to Jackson-Madison County General Hospital after Lindsay was transported by private vehicle to the hospital.

The investigation revealed that Lindsay was visiting with friends at La Paree Apartments, located at 1225 North Highland Avenue. While inside an apartment, Lindsay was on a sofa play wrestling with Greer. Before wrestling, Greer had placed a handgun on the sofa. Lindsay realized the gun was there and asked Greer to move it. When he did, the gun discharged. A bullet struck Lindsay in the leg, and then traveled upward.

Lindsay was immediately taken to the emergency room by people in the apartment, including Greer. She underwent emergency surgery and was pronounced dead at 11:30 a.m.

Police arrested Greer later that day. Investigators recovered the gun outside Greer's home on Knollwood Drive in Jackson
