The Madison County Redistricting Committee has approved a new map showing district boundaries that will ensure communities across Madison County receive fair and equal representation.
The maps include both Madison County Commission as well as school board districts.
The boundaries are designed to comply with federal and state law.
“This committee has worked hard with Stan Pilant (City of Jackson Engineer) to take the census data and ensure equal representation throughout Madison County,” said Commissioner Jeff Wall, who represents County Commission District Nine, “I applaud the committee members and all of their efforts to ensure we remain in compliance with federal guidelines each decade that the census is taken.”
Wall said population shifts over the last decade meant the number of residents in previously drawn districts were unbalanced, with major population differences from the North districts and the rest of the county.
“Madison County as a whole realized only about a population change of about 500 people over the previous decade,” However, there has been an internal population shift towards the North portion of the county of approximately 2,300 plus or minus residents. These maps create or modify the districts with population counts to match as close as possible in each district.”
