MADISON County (Oct. 19, 2017) – The Madison County Fire Department has been made aware of a fund raising scam conducted by SCAM telemarketers.
The telemarketers are asking local residents for financial contributions that will be used to support the operation of the Madison County Fire Department.
Captain Don Friddle says the Madison County Fire Department is NOT associated with any telemarketing agency and consider any representation by a telemarketer to be fraudulent activity.
We would like area residents to be aware of this activity and to report any encounters of this nature to 731-424-5577, said Capt. Friddle.
Here are a few tips to protect yourself;
* Be alert to the fact that scams exist. …
* Know who you’re dealing with. …
* Do not open suspicious texts, pop-up windows or emails – delete them: If unsure, verify the identity of the contact through an independent source such as a phone book or online search. …
* Keep your personal details secure.
The Madison County Department is working closely with the Madison County Sheriff’s
Department in hopes to identify the source fraudulent phone calls.
