NASHVILLE Tenn (Oct. 18, 2017) — State Representative Jimmy Eldridge (R-Jackson) says 2017 has been a good year for employees and consumers in our state. During the 2017 legislative session Eldridge said the House Consumer & Human Resources Committee, which Eldridge is the Chairman, “fought to protect consumers and employees across Tennessee”.
A total of 10 legislative initiatives in 2017; all were signed into law by Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam.
According to Eldridge, these initiatives reduce instances of job-killing requirements, enhance consumer protections, and also shield citizens from financial exploitation. They include:
- House Bill 180: Prohibits local governments from enacting job-killing requirements on employee scheduling.
- House Bill 366: Creates new consumer protections regarding litigation financiers.
- House Bill 545: Expands consumer protection violations for failing to disclose a security breach of personal consumer information.
- House Bill 726: Curtails the use of deceptive vehicle warranty advertisements.
- House Bill 1064: Enacts the Elderly & Vulnerable Adult Financial Exploitation Prevention Act.
“The men and women who serve on the House Consumer & Human Resources Committee have done a remarkable job strengthening protections for our consumers and employees in 2017,” said Chairman Eldridge. “As I reflect on our work, I know we have safeguarded our citizens from fraud, exploitation, and abuse; we have also made tremendous strides supporting our hardworking men and women. I look forward to partnering with my colleagues again in 2018 so that we can continue to make Tennessee a desired destination for businesses and families.”
Jimmy Eldridge is Chairman of the House Consumer & Human Resources Committee. He is also a member of the House Local Government and House Calendar & Rules Committee, as well as the House Consumer & Human Resources Subcommittee.
