The early results set the tone and four incumbent Madison County Commissioners lost in the Madison County Republican Primary, Tuesday.
Brett Beckham, Tommy Gobbell, Carl Alexander and Jeff Wall all but guaranteed themselves a seat on the County Commission after what some may consider surprising wins on a day when 4,612 votes were counted.
Beckham eked out a 27 vote win – 236-209 – over Larry Lowrance in District 3, Position 1 and Tommy Gobbell held off Gerry Neese 273 to 197 in District 3, Position 2.
Carl Alexander kept the momentum going in District 8, Position 1 by defeating Jim Ed Hart, 372 to 156 County Commission, and Jeff Wall completed the sweep when he picked up 342 votes compared to ‘Smokey’ Joe Roland’s 311.
The four winners will not face opposition when the General Election is held August 2.
Four contested races were held for Constable.
Jimmy Jordan defeated Randy Collins, 328-216, in District 4, Position 1; Fred Cunningham defeated Lance Alan Miller, 449-103 in District 4, Position 2; Frankie Lax earned 612 votes compared to 329 for Jeremy Lester in District 5, Position 1, and Scott Roland defeated Wallace (Butch) Browning, 633 to 249.
“We had a rather slow day in Madison County, but we made some big decisions for our county,” Kim Buckley, administrator of elections said. “We had a good accounting of our election … we feel pretty good about these numbers.”
