Leadership Jackson Recognized as Top Leadership Program

JACKSON, TN [November 1, 2013] – Leadership Jackson, sponsored by the Jackson Chamber, was recognized in October by the Tennessee Association of Community Leadership (TACL) with the Outstanding Leadership Program award. The award was given to Judy Renshaw, Senior Vice President, Business & Community Services, Jackson Chamber and Program Executive, Leadership Jackson, at the 2013 TACL Conference.

“It is great to receive validation from your peers about the importance of Leadership Jackson to our community and in developing leaders for the future,” Renshaw said.  “We had very forward thinking leaders at the chamber in 1979 when Leadership Jackson was created.  Our goal since then has been to continually improve and enhance the program to maximize the end result…graduates informed, empowered and ready to engage in their businesses and in the community.”

Leadership Jackson is a leadership development program for those in Jackson who demonstrate leadership potential. The program is an opportunity for local professionals to learn more about the community and the challenges it faces. The nomination process beings in June of each year, followed by an application and personal interview with 30 selected. A two-day retreat kicks off the program in September followed by twelve classes meeting once a week and the program concludes with a formal graduation in December.

During the program, class members will learn more about themselves and their community.  A leadership skill building component is incorporated into each session. Leaders in key areas, such as health care, criminal justice, economic development, quality of life, education and government, share an overview of the present state, challenges and future vision.  This information provides the class with a broad understanding of the inter-workings of Jackson-Madison County and a big picture view.  It also engages them in a self-analysis of where they can best make a positive impact by getting involved or by being a resource for their company or sphere of influence.

“Madison County and Jackson should be proud of its top ranked Leadership Jackson,” said Jay Lowe, Board President, TACL.  “Congratulations to the program for being selected as the 2013 TACL recipient of the Outstanding Leadership Program.”
