LaHaie appointed Dean of Humanities & Social Sciences at Jackson State Community College

Brings over two decades of higher education experience to the role

JACKSON, TENNESSEE – Jackson State Community College has appointed Dr. Jeanne LaHaie as the Dean of Humanities and Social Sciences following an extensive, nationwide search.

According to a press release from Henry Kilpatrick – JSCC’s public relations & marketing coordinator – LaHaie, a Western Michigan native, brings over two decades of educational experience in both the university and community college setting, making her a standout candidate for the position. During her 22-year career, she has amassed an extensive educational career, beginning as a Graduate and Adjunct Instructor of Writing and English Education at Western Michigan University (WMU). LaHaie worked at WMU for 15 years, in a variety of roles.

In 2016, LaHaie took a position at Klamath Community College (KCC) in Klamath Falls, Oregon where she served as a professor of writing and literature until being appointed as the Dean of Instruction in 2019.

“Dr. LaHaie brings extensive knowledge and experience to Jackson State, having worked with various student populations to deliver the utmost educational experience at her former institutions,” said Dr. Jennifer Lopes, Vice President of Academic Affairs. “I am pleased to appoint Dr. LaHaie as the new Dean of Humanities and Social Sciences and know that she will uphold the educational legacy of the late Dr. Mechel Camp, who she succeeds.”

While working at WMU, LaHaie taught as a Graduate and Adjunct Instructor for Children’s Literature, a Faculty Specialist in Rhetoric and Composition, and as a Gifted and Talented Educator teaching writing skills to students in WMU’s Academically Talented Youth Program (ATYP).

LaHaie earned numerous degrees during her time at WMU. She holds a B.A. and M.A. in Literature as well as a Ph.D. in English Literature with concentrations in Children’s, Romantic, and Victorian Literature. She has also served on a plethora of committees throughout her career. Most recently, before beginning at JSCC, she served on KCC’s Academic Council, Continuing Improvement and Innovation Committee, and as the Chair of the General Education Committee.

LaHaie is the successor of the late Dr. Mechel Camp, who served as the Dean of Humanities and Social Sciences before her passing in 2022.
