MADISON COUNTY, Tenn. (July 9, 2015) — On Thursday Firehouse Sub restaurant presented the Madison County Sheriff’s department with life-saving devices to add to their arsenal.
The department received 15 Automated Electric Defibrillators also known as AED’s.
The donated equipment will allow deputies to provide life-saving assistance if an individual goes into cardiac arrest.
The donation is the first of a new HeartBeat campaign to provide AED’s to every first responder’s car in Jackson and Madison County.
HeartBeat was inspired by WNWS 101.5 FM with the aim of dramatically improving the success rate of reviving victims of heart attacks.
The presentation of the grant represented an $18,000 donation to the department. Firehouse Sub officials said the grant is from funds collected by the restaurant’s safety foundation. The dollars are donated by restaurant customers who can give several ways to help provide life-saving equipment for various first responders.
Sheriff’s officials say they plan to keep the defibrillators in deputies’ cars as they patrol.
The devices are used for victims of cardiac arrest and increase the likelihood of survival.
WNWS plans to organize fund-raising events but is also counting on others, like Firehouse Subs to join in the community wide effort to save lives.
