(February 21, 2014) Jackson, Tenn.- The County Commission race field is set for the May Primary and the August General Elections.
This election will also be the first appearance of the newly created County Commission District 10 Position 3.
In County Commission District 1, Position 1 Incumbent Luther Mercer will run unopposed, as will William Martin in Position 2.
County Commission District 2 sees incumbents Scott Brown in Position 1, William Ragon in Position 2, and Douglas Stephenson in Position 3 all running unopposed.
County Commission District 3 sees it’s two positions running unopposed. Incumbents Larry Lowrance and Gerry Neese will keep their seats in Positions 1 and 2, respectively.
The first contested County Commission race is found here in District 4. While Position 1, occupied with William Walls, and Position 2, occupied by Gary Deaton, won’t see any challengers, Position 2 will.
In County Commission District 4 Position 2, Incumbent Billy Spain (R) wii be challenged by James Watford (D).
Incumbents James Pearson, Claudell Brown, and Katie Brantley are all running unopposed in District 5. Pearson represents District 1, Brown Position 2, and Brantley Position 3.
District 6 also doesn’t see any challengers. Jimmy Arnold in Position 1 and Arthur Johnson in Position 2 are running unopposed.
County Commission District 7 sees races in both of their positions. In Position 1, Incumbent Gary Tippett (R) will be challenged by Savannah Williamson.
County Commission District 1 Position 2 has a three way race between Incumbent Aaron Ellison, Leslie Henning, and Marvin Sipes (R).
County Commission District 8 also sees races in both of their positions. Position 1 sees Incumbent Jimmy Hart (R) facing off against Anthony Heavner.
Position 2 in the same District sees Incumbent Barbara Johnson running against Leighann Britton (R).
While County Commission District 9 Position 1 Incumbent Mark Johnstone (R) and Position 2 Incumbent “Smoky” Joe Roland (R) are unopposed, the same cannot be said for Position 2.
County Commission District 9 Position 2 has a Republican that will decide the race. Incumbent Adrian Eddleman (R) will be challenged by Traci Carney (R).
County Commission District 10 Position 1 sees Incumbent Jerry Bastin (R) and Position 2 Incumbent Ann Harrell (R) running unopposed.
The newly created County Commission District 10 Position 3 has a primary in May before the winner goes on to the August elections.
The Republican Primary for Position 3 sees Harold Petty (R) face Michael Taylor(R) for a spot on the August ballot.
The winner of that primary has to then face independents Shelia Godwin and William Jackson for the Position 3 seat.
Candidates have until February 27 to withdraw their names from their races. After that, it’s on the ballot for the May Primaries and then the August Election.
