MADISON County, Tenn (June 21, 2017) – Tropical Storm Cindy is making its way toward the Gulf Coast states today and is expected to make landfall along the Coast sometime Thursday morning.
At least 17 million people are under a tropical storm warning from San Luis Pass, Texas, to the Alabama-Florida border with forecasters expecting Texas and Louisiana to see up to 12 inches of rain by tomorrow morning.
T.S. Cindy’s cone of potentiality puts the storm’s center on a northeasterly path through Tennessee, from around 7 a.m. on Friday to 7 a.m. on Saturday.
There is the potential for severe storms producing heavy rains, flash flooding, damaging winds, and possibly weak tornadoes from Thursday onward as T.S. Cindy’s path through Tennessee will take the storm, literally, from Memphis to Mountain City.
TEMA will be staffing the State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC) in Nashville Friday and Saturday to monitor the storm’s progress and impacts to the State, to respond to any local requests for assistance, and to stay in close contact with federal and state partners for situational awareness and responsiveness.
WHAT SHOULD YOU DO?
- Monitor your local forecasts for weather information:
- Never venture into high water, either on foot or in a vehicle: Turn Around, Don’t Drown.
- Follow the instructions of emergency officials if any actions are required to protect and save lives.
- Make sure you’re ready if you lose power: charge your mobile devices and have a battery-powered radio (and extra batteries).
- If you’ve been thinking about putting together an emergency kit, now is a good time to acquire what you need: one gallon of water per day, per person, and per pet, for three-to-five days; non-perishable food for each family member, and pets, for three-to-five days;first aid kit and personal hygiene items; cell phone charger or solar charger; copies of important family documents; and extra supplies of medications, especially for those with chronic health conditions. More emergency plan and kit suggestions athttps://www.ready.gov/make-a-plan.
