Dr. Akbar received his medical degrees from Khyber Medical College in Peshawar, Pakistan, and the Royal College of Physicians in Edinburgh, UK.

He completed two residencies at Lady Reading Hospital in Peshawar, Pakistan, and Mercy Catholic Medical Center in Philadelphia, PA.

He has practiced medicine in hospitals in Pakistan, the UAE, the UK, and the United States.

A nephrologist treats medical diseases of the kidneys and associated body parts, particularly diseases leading to kidney failure.

Most diseases affecting the kidney are not limited to the organ itself but are systemic disorders, which requires a nephrologist to understand how the kidneys relate to the body as a whole.
