The Jackson Police Department (JPD) is investigating a fatal traffic crash that occurred late Wednesday evening on the US 45 Bypass, claiming the life of a bicyclist. The department extends its deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased, identified as 40-year-old Jarvis Davis.
On October 7, at approximately 11:23 PM, JPD officers were dispatched to the southbound side of the US 45 Bypass near the off-ramp to Hollywood Drive following reports of a vehicle striking a pedestrian on a bicycle.
A preliminary investigation indicates that a driver of a truck was attempting to exit the Bypass onto the Hollywood Drive off-ramp when the vehicle struck Davis, who was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of traffic.
Emergency medical responders arrived on the scene and transported Davis to Jackson-Madison County General Hospital (JMCGH), where he was pronounced deceased shortly after arrival.
The driver remained on the scene following the collision and cooperated fully with investigating officers. Members of the JPD’s Traffic Reconstruction team, responded to the scene to process the area and conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
