Beaming with pride – final pieces falling into place for Jackson Clinic/Baptist Memorial

A partnership that developed between the Jackson Clinic and Baptist Memorial Health Care to build and operate a new outpatient center in Madison County was topped off when the final beam was put into place at 145 & 155 Innovation Drive, Tuesday.

Baptist was selected to partner with the Jackson Clinic because they shared the same vision for developing high quality outpatient health services across West Tennessee.

“Topping out is a great symbol for this project,” said Dr. William Preston, president of The Jackson Clinic, “Today we are placing the highest steel structure for this building. This project also represents the Jackson Clinic and Baptist Memorial Health Care working together to offer the highest level of care for people and the community of this region.

“When Baptist was founded in 1912, and the Jackson Clinic opened its doors in 1950, a doctor’s office or hospital was somewhere you went when you were sick to get better.”

Preston said he would like to say at that point, health care was sick care.

“Today, health care, and its definition have a much broader impact – it impacts many more facets of our lives than just when we’re sick,” Preston said, “It’s a privilege for the Jackson Clinic to cooperate with Baptist on this project, because I know both organizations wake up every morning thinking about ‘how can I make health care better?'”

Surgeries and procedures to be performed at the center include gastrointestinal, ophthalmologic, gynecological, general, plastic, urologic, pediatric as well as ear, nose and throat. Diagnostic heart catheterizations will also be performed at the center.

The new outpatient center will give patients more choices, lower patient costs and shorten wait times for surgical procedures. It will provide greater access for patients in surrounding communities. It will also create new jobs and generate additional revenue for the city and county.

Outpatient surgery centers have become an increasingly popular option for surgeries that do not require an overnight hospital stay. Each year, physicians perform more than 23 million procedures in outpatient surgery centers; and, that number is growing as more patients choose the convenience, quality and lower cost of an outpatient setting. The new outpatient center will be Medicare certified and accredited.

The facility, which incorporates approximately 135,000 square feet is expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2023.
