When thinking about the Kansas City Chiefs the word ‘Dynasty,’ comes to mind.
But for locals, Trey Smith has become a household name after the Kansas City Chiefs won Super Bowl LVIII with a 25-22 overtime win over San Francisco in Las Vegas, Sunday.
Smith is an alum of the University School of Jackson and offensive lineman with the Chiefs, who won back-to-back Lombardi Trophies, third in five years, and fourth title in franchise history.
Smith, a 2017 graduate of University School of Jackson, was a 5-star recruit, ranked No. 1 by ESPN. During his football career at USJ, Trey received the Tennessee Titans Mr. Football Lineman of the Year in 2015 and 2016 for Division II-A.
Smith is also a former University of Tennessee at Knoxville football player where he played four years. Smith received numerous awards from the University of Tennessee including 2017 Freshman All-American, 2018 Community Service Team, 2019 All-SEC First Team, 2020 Pat Summitt Ignite Greatness Award, 2021 Tennessee Torchbearer Award and many others.
Smith joins Ed “Too Tall” Jones (SB-XII, Cowboys), Trey Teague (SB-XXXIII, Broncos), and Jabari Greer (SB-XLIV, Saints) as NFL players from Jackson to have won Super Bowl Championships.
The Chiefs were participating in their sixth Super Bowl in franchise history.
