TVA partners with Jackson Energy Authority in COVID-19 response fund

JACKSON, TENNESSEE – The Foundation’s Covid-19 Response Fund received yet another boost through a contribution from the Jackson Energy Authority, matched by the Covid-19 Community Care Fund of the TVA – according to a press release from Janet Wilbanks – public relations coordinator – JEA.

“The Tennessee Valley Authority was created to serve. We know that service requires a full investment, which is at the heart of our mission. We want to see communities grow and thrive, but much more, we want to contribute to that growth in lasting ways,” said Mark Yates, TVA West Regional Vice President. “We appreciate the hard work and partnership of JEA and other agencies that are also committed to positively impacting lives. TVA is proud to work alongside you.”

The TVA Covid-19 Community Care Fund was established to help local power companies meet immediate community needs and hardships created by this pandemic.

Matching contributions from JEA and the TVA will be distributed to the Southwest Human Resource Agency ($20,000), the United Way of West TN ($20,000) and the Boys & Girls Club of Jackson ($10,000).

Jim Ferrell, President/CEO Jackson Energy Authority noted, “Utility assistance from Southwest Human Resource Agency will be of direct benefit to JEA customers impacted by the Pandemic, but additional family needs will be reached through the Boys & Girls Club and the United Way.”

“As an electric distributor, we appreciate the TVA’s Jackson community partnership, noted Monte Cooper, JEA Sr. Vice-President of Electricity. “We are pleased this partnership brings additional funds to the Foundation’s outreach.”

“This is an exciting announcement for Jackson and West Tennessee! We are grateful for JEA and TVA as they continue to invest back into the people of Jackson and West Tennessee,” stated The Foundation’s, Frank McMeen.

The Fund, administered through grants to non-profit groups, will address needs for those who have experienced job loss, reduction in hours, food and housing insecurity and other issues that unemployment and other government assistance do not cover.
