Pittman Trial Postponed, Prosecution Key Reports Still Not Finished

JACKSON Tenn (June 8, 2015) – When will the Pittman trial begin in the murder of Union University student Olivia Greenlee?

The date suffered another set back on Monday.

At a status hearing for Charles Pittman, the state’s District Attorney had his motion heard for continuance due to scheduling problems the prosecution has with their witnesses.

Charles Pittman, the fiance of Olivia Greenlee and former Union University student, is charged with premeditated 1st degree Murder of Greenlee. Pittman is represented by Public Defender’s office, Attorney George Googe.

District attorney Jody Pickens, said his office is expecting blood splatter evidence to be released within the next two weeks. The state is also waiting for reports from forensics experts in distance determination to see how far the gun was from Greenlee’s head when it was fired, as well as forensic computer analysis.

The prosecution said their progress depends on when they can get key evidence.

The defense said it’s still waiting for evidence to be processed before they’ll consider a plea.

Googe said, we have received some reports but there’s several still out there that we’re waiting on. Some of which I just found out about including a bloodstain pattern analysis report that’s out, and also computer forensics, and distance determination that the state is looking at we haven’t received these things, according to Googe.

We don’t really know how to prepare our case or what the evidence is until we get those so we don’t know when we can be ready or what evidence we need to present if any, said Googe.

Googe said, This case is one that has a lot more witnesses than other cases, it also has more expert witnesses, at least according to what I’ve seen so far in the discovery. I really can’t get into the facts of the case to the rules of ethics but it’s just really complicated.

Circuit Court Judge Roy Morgan Jr told both sides to come back Monday June 15th for another status hearing. The original trial date was September 28. A new date of October 26 is tentatively scheduled.
