Members met Tuesday night at the Jackson Madison County School Central Office. The group consists of members from the County Commission and the school board.
The agenda for the meeting included discussion of the $100,000 grant from “Project Lead the Way”. Earlier this month the Toyota Foundation awarded $100,000 in grants to five Jackson-Madison County middle schools to have a new STEM class.
According to school superintendent, Dr Eric Jones, STEM, which stands for science, technology, engineering and math, is one of the fastest-growing occupation clusters for jobs with an estimated employment of 2.6 million workers by 2020. STEM jobs represent one of the fastest-growing
opportunities in our economy, and students need the skills to qualify for these jobs.
Students get hands-on experience and those experiences and the experience translates into jobs when they enter the workforce.
