Dresden native named MVP in Double A Texas League

Matt Beaty, a 2011 graduate of Dresden High School, has been named the Most Valuable Player in the Texas League for 2017.

He hit .326 in 116 games with the Tulsa Drillers, the Los Angeles Dodgers Double A affiliate, after beginning the 2017 season with the Rancho Cucamonga (California) Quakes in the California League, the Dodgers Class A Advanced affiliate.

Selected in the 12th round the 2015 MLB Draft out of Belmont University, Beaty accounted for 143 hits, 31 doubles, 15 home runs and 69 RBI with the Drillers.

Beaty plays first base for the Drillers, who begin play in the Texas League playoffs, Wednesday in Springdale, Arkansas, the home of the Northwest Arkansas Naturals, the Double A affiliate of the Kansas City Royals.

Of interest, the Arkansas (Little Rock) Travelers, who also play in the Texas League, are the Double A affiliate of the Seattle Mariners, who were in Jackson from 2007 to 2016.
