Popeyes on North Highland in Jackson Closes Its Doors Amid Health Concerns
JACKSON, Tenn. — The Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen at 1921 N. Highland Ave. has shut down.
As of this week, the restaurant’s page on the official Popeyes website lists all days as “Closed,” and a sign posted on the door confirms the location is no longer operating.
The closure follows a series of subpar health inspections. A February 26, 2026, inspection by the Jackson-Madison County Regional Health Department gave the restaurant a score of 76, with issues including mice droppings. A more recent March 9 inspection improved slightly to an 88, but the earlier failing marks appear to have contributed to mounting problems at the aging location.
The N. Highland Popeyes, which had occupied the site for decades, had long been described by some locals as in need of major upgrades. Its shutdown comes as one of the chain’s large franchisees navigates bankruptcy proceedings that have led to dozens of closures across the Southeast in recent weeks.
A new Popeyes had been approved some years ago for the same location, but management was unable to be reached for comment to determine if that is still the plan.
Jackson still has other Popeyes locations open, including spots on Vann Drive and Royal. No official statement has been released yet on whether the N. Highland site might reopen under new management or at a different address.
