Women In Business features Medina author Susannah B. Lewis

The quarterly Women In Business (WIB) luncheon hosted by the Jackson Chamber of Commerce Thursday brought out the largest crowd ever for guest speaker Susannah B. Lewis.

Lewis has her own spin on life as a wife and mother of three children, not to mention the seven dogs at the Lewis household. The Medina resident shared her story of listening to stories handed down from her family as a young girl growing up in Brownsville, all the while dreaming of writing books (her latest book is “Bless Your Heart, Rae Sutton”).

Then as life happened, she woke up before her family to get in some writing time, wrote after everyone was in bed, in the car pool line, any place she could.

As with most aspiring authors, there were mountains to climb for Lewis along the way to becoming a best-selling author.  Each rejection letter gave her more courage and determination.

“There is a hidden treasure in every one of you, it is up to you to take a leap of faith and utilize it, to fight for it,” Lewis told the group.

She says fear and challenges increase as one goal is met and another takes its place but that the energy to overcome difficulties comes from an invincible fighting spirit.

The WIB luncheon was held at the Union University Carl Grant Events Center with more than 200 in attendance; which reportedly is the most-attended luncheon in series history.

The next WIB luncheon is set for December 13.
