HUMBOLDT Tenn (June 22, 2015) — Woman Gives Birth And Is Charged Under New Drug Law
According to Humboldt Police, on June 10, 2015 Shaquailan Shanadore Walker gave birth to a baby boy at a residence in Humboldt.
The baby and mother were transported to Jackson General Hospital where both the new born and mother did test positive for cocaine.
After an investigation by the Humboldt Police Department and the Department of Children Services the mother 24 year old Shaquailan Shanadore Walker was charged with Aggravated Assault and Reckless Endangerment.
Shaquailan Shanadore Walker was transported to the Gibson County Correctional Complex and has made bond.
A new state law went into effect in early July 2014 that allows a woman to be “prosecuted for assault for the illegal use of a narcotic drug while pregnant” if the child is harmed or addicted to the drug.
