Jackson, Tennessee – As West Tennessee Healthcare hospitals continue to see high volumes of COVID-19 patients throughout the region, Jackson-Madison County General Hospital (JMCGH) is enhancing access to care and extending its services for COVID-19 patients beyond the walls of the hospital.
A new program allows the hospital to proactively monitor patients who have tested positive for COVID-19 and have been discharged from the facility. Remote patient monitoring allows for the measurement and reporting of vital signs to the hospital without the need for patients to go to a health care facility.
Some individuals discharged from the hospital will have access to a new wearable device that is about the size of a watch. This allows Health Management staff to continuously monitor vital signs such as heart rate and oxygen saturation levels through a secure dashboard. The health management group not only monitors patients, but also calls and discusses current symptoms, sets up primary care appointments, and can assist with care as appropriate. This allows staff to keep in touch frequently with patients at a higher risk with COVID-19.
