The West Tennessee Healthcare Board of Trustees of the Jackson-Madison County General Hospital District held their monthly meeting at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital, Friday.

Special Presentation
Jeff Blankenship, chief financial officer, recognized Vicki Lake, director of business development for exceeding $100 million in grant money for our community.
Medical Staff Privileges
The Board approved recommendations for medical staff privileges at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital as presented by Dr. Jackie Taylor, Chief Physician Executive
Resolution:
The Board approved a resolution presented by Jeff Blankenship to purchase an ownership interest in Select Specialty Hospital – West Tennessee, LLC. This will provide long-term care services to patients whose conditions require long-term acute care services.
Quality Dashboard
Dr. Jackie Taylor, Chief Physician Executive, presented the WTH Quality Dashboard and a COVID-19 update.
Committee Reports
The Board heard summary reports from the Medical Care Review Committee and the Foundation, and the IT Governance Committee presented by Vicki Burch and Phil Bryant respectively.
CFO Report
Jeff Blankenship, Chief Financial Officer, provided an update on the organization’s financial performance. Through November, the organization has posted an operating loss, with a negative operating margin of -4.9%, against a budget of +0.9%.
Revenue has been up, but costs have been significant and up more through the first five months of the fiscal year with COVID-related costs, agency staffing costs, and extended hospital length of stay.
Mr. Blankenship also provided an update on recent activity to re-structure some of the organization’s debt obligations.
Management Report
James Ross, President and CEO, expressed his gratitude and appreciation for the leadership team during the past 12 months. He also reported that our leadership is closely monitoring any Covid-19 developments and will act accordingly. Mr. Ross and the leadership team provided updates on court system mandates.
Mr. Ross congratulated the following Healthcare Heroes for recently being recognized at the Jackson Rotary Club: Connie Thornburg, Executive Director of Critical Care; James Fountain, Executive Director of Emergency Services; Mike Tims, Staff Respiratory Therapist; and Lori Wood, Director of Nursing for West Tennessee Healthcare – Milan Hospital. Mr. Ross said this is just a small representation of the great people we have working for West Tennessee Healthcare.
Finally, Mr. Ross reported that our EMS worked in Lake and Weakley counties after the storms last week. West Tennessee Healthcare also sent supplies to those affected by the storms in Kentucky.
