NASHVILLE — Gov. Bill Haslam will be joined by state and local public safety officials to host the 12th annual “Tennessee Season to Remember”.
Families and friends of victims who have lost their lives to violent crime are invited to attend and hang ornaments on memorial wreaths in memory of their loved ones. The wreaths will be moved to the Tennessee State Capitol and remain on display throughout the holiday season.
District Attorney General Mike Dunavant is scheduled to be the keynote speaker. Dunavant was elected in 2006 to serve as district attorney of Tennessee’s 25th Judicial District, which includes Lauderdale, Tipton, Fayette, Hardeman, and McNairy counties in west Tennessee. Voters this year re-elected him to a second term. In 2008, Dunavant’s wife, Jackie, was killed in a vehicular homicide accident in Lauderdale County. Dunavant has been a tireless advocate for victims of crime and has received several awards for his work on behalf of crime victims.
The Tennessee Board of Parole, Tennessee Department of Correction, Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security, Tennessee Department of Finance and Administration’s Office of Criminal Justice Programs, Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, Tennessee Attorney General’s Office, Tennessee Secretary of State’s Office, Tennessee Department of Treasury, Tennessee District Attorneys General Conference, Tennessee Rehabilitative Initiative in Correction (TRICOR), and victims’ advocacy groups You Have the Power and Tennessee Voices for Victims organized this year’s event.
